Palm Jumeirah is an artificial island that belongs to the archipelago "Palm Islands". It also includes Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira, whose territory is still under development. According to estimates, when the construction is completed, the listed islands will make the coastline 520 km longer. Palm Jumeirah itself adds 78.6 km to the 72-kilometer coastline. Description of the area
The area of the island is 5.72 km2, which is equivalent to 600 football fields. The construction of the world's largest football stadium, Wembley Stadium, took more than four years, and in just six years the Palm Jumeirah was built.
The archipelago is shaped like a date palm. The main trunk has 17 branches stretching to the east and west, and there is also an embankment in the shape of a crescent, which is located on the top of the tree on three sides.
Years of research, testing, reviews and environmental assessments were carried out to form the basis of the project. These included a study conducted by Dubai-based Emirates Nortech to test the shape and volume of the island above and below the water line.
After the completion of construction in 2011, Palm Jumeirah became the location of 32 five-star beach hotels with 25,000 guests, and the apartments and villas of the area can now accommodate 60,000 residents. The population of the island has five beach resorts and four marinas.
The crescent-shaped breakwater was the first part of Palm Jumeirah to be built. It protects the island from strong sea currents and seasonal winds that blow across the Persian Gulf from Iraq.
